The Cleaner Technology Centre held its eighth Environment Award for Industry presentation ceremony.
The aim of these awards is to acknowledge the contribution of industry in favour of sustainable development. The awards give recognition to industries or organisations which, through their policies, practices and processes, help bring about social and economic development while reducing the impact of their operations on the environment.
The awards also spur on more organisations to take measures in favour of the environment.
This year’s awards were given as follows:
The Management Award for Sustainable Development (Category A) went to Arrow Pharm (Malta) Ltd. This award aims to recognise and promote organisations that have based their management systems on the requirements of sustainable development. It highlights the growing need for businesses and organisations to acknowledge their obligations to various stakeholders within society and to manage their broader social responsibilities accordingly.
The Conservation Award for Sustainable Development award, designed to recognise and promote the achievement of outstanding results in the areas of energy, water and materials conservation, went to Elepac Ltd.
An honourable mention was given to James Caterers Ltd. A Special Award for Enduring Commitment to Environmental Protection went to ST Microelectronics (Malta) Ltd.
The awardees are eligible to participate in the European Business Award for the Environment, organised by the European Commission, and will be assisted by the Cleaner Technology Centre throughout the application process.
The winners were presented their awards by Environment Minister Leo Brincat. A congratulatory video by European Commissioner Karmenu Vella was also screened during the evening.
