Dragon’s Dogma, developed by Capcom for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, and released in Europe two days ago, is an RPG that promises to be one of this year’s bestsellers.

The plot is pretty simple – during a raid on a small fishing village, a dragon approaches the hero of the story and, without offering any explanation except telling him he is the chosen one, proceeds to tear out his heart.

Of course, the hero being a hero, doesn’t die – instead, he is saved from certain death and, revived as ‘Arisen’, sets out to find and kill the dragon that stole his heart.

Yet apart from your main target – the dragon – the gameplay is open world action, which means you are free to roam and explore other side-quests in the rich, in-depth world that the game is set in. And that, of course, means plenty of baddies to kill – griffons, harpies, goblins, ogres, dragons and wolves are all there, and each enemy requires specific tactics to eliminate it.

Interestingly, characters and environment also influence each other – the wind, for instance, can make you lose balance while, as night falls, enemies become more aggressive.

Dragon’s Dogma has been developed by the brains behind Capcom’s other bestsellers, including Resident Evil 4 and Devil May Cry 4, and is built on the company’s proven MT Framework engine.

And that can only mean you’re in safe hands. Figuratively speaking, of course, because there’s always another monster round the corner.
