Enemalta has confirmed that the man at the centre of the Delimara power station contract controversy, Joseph Mizzi, was awarded a contract for the purchase of 10 trucks earlier this year.

Mr Mizzi, who was the middleman for Danish company BWSC that was awarded the multimillion euro Delimara extension tender, was mentioned again by Labour leader Joseph Muscat last Friday during the Xarabank television show.

Dr Muscat said despite the controversy he was involved in, Mr Mizzi was awarded a contract worth €650,000 for the purchase of 10 trucks by Enemalta.

In a statement issued this week the corporation said the contract was worth €497,000 and had been the “all round cheapest offer by far”.

Enemalta said the tender was a Department of Contracts tender and the due process was followed. Eight bids were received of which Comet Sas had the cheapest offer. The contract was awarded on March 23.

Mr Mizzi’s name came to the fore when a series of e-mails revealed by Labour MP Evarist Bartolo showed how he had told the Danish company that higher political sources had to be tapped in connection with the Delimara contract.

Mr Mizzi was a former Enemalta employee and the Auditor General’s investigation into the contract later revealed that he had been the agent of Lehmeyer International, the company engaged by Enemalta to carry out a technical evaluation of the power station bids.
