Labour MP Charles Mangion has resigned as Enemalta chairman, in line with the law, after being elected to Parliament in a casual election last week.

According to the Enemalta Act, MPs cannot form part of the corporation’s board.

A former justice minister, Dr Mangion was appointed chairman a year ago after he failed to be elected with the Labour government.

He now takes up the seat vacated by President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca.

Yesterday, Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi announced that deputy chairman Joe Ellul Vincenti would become acting chairman.

Mr Mizzi was speaking at the Marsa power station on a tour accompanied by Prime Minister Joseph Muscat.

They stressed that workers would not lose their jobs as they would be given the opportunity to work at the new Delimara gas-powered station while retaining their current working conditions.

They also assured workers would not be forced to move abroad, although those who were interested in any vacancies would be able to apply.
