The Malta Weightlifting Federation have just held their last competition for the year with lifters getting another chance to improve their position in the national rankings.

First to compete at the Cottonera Sports Complex were the female athletes and cadets.

Seven national records were broken, four by Ivana Micallef and three by Nicole Gatt. Rylee Borg and Blake Vassallo continued to show progress with a series of impressive lifts and good technique.

Next up were lifters from the youth category. Malcolm Camilleri, Owen Bugeja, Keiran Mifsud and Emersin Bugeja lived up to their billing with Camilleri alone esta-blishing three new records in the 50kg category that had stood for the past eight years.

Joran Farrugia also did well to set three new national records in the 94kg+ for youths.

There were some encouraging results for senior class lifters Charles Degorgio and also Ryan Agius who was making his debut.

However, it was the tussle for top spot in this division, involving Rodmar Pulis and Matthew Muscat Inglott, that stole most of the limelight.

In the end, Muscat Inglott won with a fraction of a point.

The competition motivated both lifters to achieve personal bests as they gear up for the Mediterranean Cup in Brindisi, Italy, next month along with team-mates Jovan Relijc and Nicole Gatt.
