The Actavis Lifecycle challengers reached the finish line in St Petersburg yesterday after an arduous 2,000km journey, raising funds for Mater Dei Hospital’s renal unit.

They crossed the Russian border from Narva in Estonia yesterday morning, although they were held up for several hours by bureaucracy.

The 30-strong team, including 18 cyclists, had set off from Minsk on August 20.

They spent Monday night enjoying a meal in the Estonian capital Tallinn.

The challenge has raised well over €130,000 for the renal unit.
