Career officer within HSBC UK Contact Centre Malta’s People Experience Team, Clare Anderson shares her experience as part of the centre’s commitment towards developing its people for career success.

“My role as career officer is primarily to support managers and the individuals in their teams. The centre invests a lot in its people at every stage of the business and I play a part in this commitment by ensuring that employees have all they require to focus and achieve their potential,” she says.

“From the moment an employee starts at our contact centre, they benefit from our culture of investment and development. For instance, if an employee requires more time in training, we’ll look into providing this wherever possible. We put a lot into assisting employee development throughout their careers.”

Sharing best practice is also key to empowering employees.

“As the centre has grown in size and success over the years, we have taken on more coaches and trainers to ensure that our people get all the career support they require to excel. As part of this, we create personal development plans which consider the talents, skills and needs of each employee on an individual basis. These plans are one important tool we use to help employees achieve their aspirations and progress to the next stage of their careers,” says Ms Anderson.

“Put simply, I work to help employees’ progression and development. If an employee would like to move to another department, or even to the UK, which is definitely a possibility, then I am there to facilitate that. I also help them to find their branch, create CVs, approach their interview and succeed in their ambitions. Empowering individuals to take ownership of their development is our goal, irrespective of whether this is done through coaching, training, the HSBC Business School, or by offering opportunities to gain experience in other departments.”

There are various highlights to working at the HSBC Contact Centre.

“These include the building’s modern and centrally located facilities, great career opportunities and employee support. Many other job perks – unheard of in other companies – offer special advantages such as an in-house gym, employee concierge facilities, and all kinds of benefits to help employees achieve an ideal work-life balance.

“For me however, the greatest highlight is the people here. Working as a team keeps me interested, motivated, and close to my colleagues with whom I always learn so much.”
