After complaining for years about the sad state of the San Ġwann playing field, I must now thank and congratulate Minister George Pullicino for his welcome project in our locality. Placing the boċċi club in the playing field area and occupying most of the space was a mistake from the word go.

San Ġwann is mainly made of young families with children but they never had a proper place where to enjoy themselves. Very half-hearted efforts were made in the past but it was never enough. It is a dingy, unattractive and broken place that does not appeal to anybody, let alone the children. Good news too is the building of a civic centre, which we have been lacking all along. I hope this centre will include the local council offices, the police station, the government clinic, social service offices and all the other amenities that have been in dire need of more space and rehabilitation for years in a locality of 14,000 souls.

Last but not least is the promise the residents of Triq l-Istefanotis have been waiting for since they came to live here 40 years ago. The neglected plot of land is going to be turned into a green area dedicated to arboriculture.

I’m sure the people here will be relieved and will stop me from writing any further about the subject.
