An Egyptian man was yesterday remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to the attempted murder of a Valletta kiosk owner.

Standing in the dock with his right arm bandaged and in a sling, Ali Ibrahem Eldessouki, 38, from Valletta, denied trying to kill Anthony Fenech, 56, by stabbing him with a penknife on Tuesday at about 7.30 a.m.

Mr Eldessouki also denied causing serious injury, damaging the kiosk, being in illegal possession of a knife and relapsing.

Magistrate Neville Camilleri remanded him in custody. Police Inspector Kylie Borg prosecuted.
