The prompt and efficient service of an Emirates employee saved the life of an elderly man who nearly choked to death in a piece of watermelon while at the beach (July 7).
Such an action should make us all realise the importance of having at least some basic knowledge of first aid. There were instances where people were not so lucky.
Being such an important and necessary issue, I suggest that, in schools, even in the early stages, children are taught how to deal with certain mishaps that can occur at any time. The local councils and administrative committees can help too by embarking on a project to hold first aid courses at different levels, for all their locals – possibly for free, especially in the case of students and elderly people.
