I have been meaning to spruce up my house a tad but I haven’t found the right time yet. I have been wanting to try a new mince pie dough but I’ve bought the ingredients and keep putting it off.

A man travels the world over in search of what he needs and returns home to find it- George Moore

I would like to order Chinese take-away just to make Friday evening a little special but I have been dozing off on my sofa at 9 p.m. every evening after work.

After a hectic week, Sunday is a prolonged love affair with the kitchen table – first with lunch, then teatime, followed by biscuits, cakes and chocolates – it’s all about spending time in the comfort of your home.

Whether it’s just pottering about doing odd jobs here and there, or simply making a cup of tea and sipping it calmly in the garden, enjoying and making the most of your leisure time around the house is fun and always mellows me out before starting off another busy week.

Making use of every single space and room turns any house into a lived-in home with its very own character, smells, look and atmosphere. Home is there to be enjoyed.

With winter right on our doorstep, now is the time to take out those dark-hued rugs and hang the new set of curtains. Mix and match soft and bold colours to give your house its new, snug look. Whatever the result, this is your home, your comfort zone.

No need to break the bank. With a few odd touches here and there, you can perform tiny miracles. And you’d be surprised at how much more creative you can be if you spend a little more time at home.

Rummaging through a rugbox in search of old material or looking for a box of Christmas decorations stacked away on some forgotten shelf is almost like a hunt for those things you hold close to your heart and can never part with or throw away.

Out of Pandora’s box comes the stuff that has been hidden away for years –just old possessions reminiscent of your childhood, or newer objects bought in a hurry, put away for future use and completely forgotten.

Once these things are out and about, your home becomes a little more special because you feel it is now enhanced by what you really appreciate.

This proves that spending time at home is not only enjoyable… but also fruitful!

Enjoy reading and I will be back next month with the Christmas supplement.
