At the beginning of May, construction works started on a large site at Għar il-Lembi Street c/w High Street, Sliema. This means they have to dig a large hole that is three storeys deep.

It is bad enough we have to inhale all the dust. It is bad enough we cannot open a window or door again because of the dust.

It is bad enough that we have to bear the noise coming from excavators and other heavy machinery, sometimes until 6pm. It is bad enough that our street looks like a bombarded Syrian village.

What is worse is that excavation works start as early as 6am.

Last week, I called the police several times but to no avail. Either the police did not come at all or, if they did, they were completely ignored.

It seems that there is no law enforcement in this country. Unless a policeman is present on site at 6am to prevent them from starting works we, the residents of this area, will continue to suffer for at least another three weeks, June 15, when, supposedly, noisy works cannot be carried out until September 15.
