Malta has received more than €1 million in EU funds under the European Refugee Fund to provide food for migrants and asylum seekers hosted at the Safi and Hal Far detention centres.

The government said more than 200,000 meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) were served to detainees through these funds.

The fund is part of a programme called Solidarity and Management of Migration Flows. It supports member states’ efforts in receiving refugees and displaced persons and in guaranteeing access to consistent, fair and effective asylum procedures.
