The eligible amount of financing by the EU Cohesion Funds with regard to the Sant’ Antnin waste recycling plant was €16,747,500.

Answering a parliamentary question by Labour MP Leo Brincat, Resources Minister George Pullicino said the co-financing rate was 70 per cent, while the remaining 30 per cent must be financed by local funds. The amount of €11,723,250 was therefore funded by the EU while the government forked out the remaining €5,024,250.

Mr Pullicino observed that if now Opposition Leader Joseph Muscat had had his way in his campaign for the EU not to allocate funds for the project, Malta would have had to pay the full €16,747,500.
