Peter Agius has been appointed head of the European Parliament Office in Malta.
Dr Agius, who has been working with the Council of Ministers in Brussels for the past 10 years, will take office in July to replace Julian Vassallo – who held the office between 2006 and 2011 – and Massimo Farrugia, who has been acting head since mid-2011.
“In my role assisting the council in negotiations, I have witnessed first-hand the commitment of the MEPs to delivering on the aspirations of their constituencies – the European citizens,” he said.
The European Parliament could ensure the EU truly responded to the will of its citizens, he added.
