I write on behalf of a group of teenagers with a profile of dyslexia. They see things in a different way; they are very imaginative and, hence, creative.

The group has been meeting for these last two years to do various activities like drama and sharing their experience and difficulties. These experiences were also presented during a conference in Malta and abroad.

These young people would like to emphasise that they are both similar to and also different from other teenagers. They think that the school and the education authorities are not aware of their abilities both as students and as future Maltese citizens.

They learn, understand and show what they know in a different way than others who are able to read and write easily.

These teenagers ask the authorities to understand that one can show one’s ability not only in writing. If given the opportunity to do their exams orally or by means of a computer, depending on one’s need, they would feel more at ease to sit for the exam and demonstrate what they know.

A performance is being held on February 22 at 7.30pm at the University chapel. A British actor with a profile of dyslexia will top the cast of characters. Anyone interested should call 2340 3518.
