Major Peter Ripard will tomorrow be giving an illustrated talk on Dwejra, an event organised by Din l-Art Ħelwa as its public lecture for this month.

Entitled A Guide’s Presentation of the Qawra and Dwejra Area in Gozo as a Natural Heritage Site of National and International Importance, the aim of this presentation is to create awareness of the natural beauty of the Qawra and Dwejra area in Gozo and the corresponding need for a strictly enforced management plan to ensure its conservation.

To do this effectively, one would have to visit all the individual sites, each one with its own exceptional characteristics, which make up the area.

Although spread out by a few hundred metres in different directions, these sites are all interrelated by virtue of the mechanical effect of water over several millennia. Collectively, they make up what can be described as the most important site of natural beauty in the Maltese archipelago.

This description takes into account several important geological, ecological, archaeological and historical features to be found here.

•The talk, being delivered in English, is being held at Din l-Art Ħelwa in Melita Street, Valletta, tomorrow at 6.30pm. Entrance is free of charge but donations to DLĦ’s restoration fund are most appreciated.

Major Peter Ripard has devoted his life to a number of passions and pursuits, prime among these being his dedication as a specialised guide to promoting the history and rich cultural heritage of Malta, not only to visitors to these islands but also to his own compatriots.

His knowledge of our history, environment and topography, coupled with an ability to communicate this knowledge with clarity and in a language which everybody can understand, made him one of Malta’s leading guides.

Major Ripard was appointed a Member of the National Order of Merit in 2010.
