Dundee United have moved to dampen speculation over the immediate future of David Goodwillie by insisting there are no significant developments to discuss.

Reports in Wales claim Goodwillie is expected in Cardiff to undergo a medical after City agreed to meet United’s £2 million asking price. However, it has also been claimed that both Cardiff and Rangers are holding off until Goodwillie’s personal situation becomes clearer.

The 22-year-old was charged in connection with an alleged serious sexual assault in January but the player is still waiting for police to determine whether the case will go to court.

Goodwillie, who was charged with assault last week following an incident in Glasgow in Nov-ember, came off the bench on Saturday as United won 2-0 at Forfar in their first pre-season friendly on Scottish soil.

And United later released a statement attempting to reassure supporters that their player’s departure was not imminent.

It read: “In light of the recent continued speculation regarding the potential transfer of David Goodwillie, the club wish to make clear they will be making no further comment regarding this subject unless there are any developments to discuss.

“We would like to assure our supporters that should there be any change to the situation, we will keep them informed and issue a further statement.”

Rangers last week had an offer for Goodwillie, believed to be an initial £1 million, turned down.

United manager Peter Houston then advised the striker, who scored 19 goals last season, to choose a move to the English league should he have the option.

Blackpool are also reported to be interested in Goodwillie, whose Scotland career has been put on hold by his former club boss Craig Levein while he still faces criminal charges.
