The global rebranding of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is expected to be among the decisions taken at a forum in Malta this week, chaired by Prince Edward.

The 11th Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Forum, which will be held between Wednesday and Sunday at the Corinthia San Ġorġ, St Julian’s, is expected to decide on a new method to deliver the award, ensuring it reaches out to as many youths as possible around the world.

It will enable delegates from the individual award authorities to have the opportunity to share experiences and best practice.

More than 300 delegates from 66 countries are expected to attend the Malta Forum.

Prince Edward is chairman of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award International Council.

The award is a programme for youths aged 14 to 25, which allows the development of individuals in a non-competitive environment.

It assists them in the development of life skills and enables them to be better prepared for the challenges of life in the adult world.

Since the award was founded by the Duke of Edinburgh in 1956, over eight million people have participated in it in over 140 countries and territories, making it the world’s leading youth achievement award.

It was launched in Malta in 1961 as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award – Malta Branch and the name was changed to the President’s Award – Malta to reflect the support it receives from the Presidency.
