Public Dialogue Minister Chris Said recently presented a drum kit to the King’s Own Philharmonic Society. The drum kit was presented to the society’s president Ivan Grixti, who in return presented a CD of this year’s band marches for the feast of St Dominic being celebrated in Valletta next Sunday.

The drum kit will be used in the teaching of the instrument to those young musicians who would like to take up drums.

It will also be used during various concerts given by the King’s Own Youth Band.

Meanwhile, the youth band will play as the statue of St Dominic is being brought out of its niche at St Dominic’s parish church, Valletta, today at 10.45 a.m.

The youth band will also play marches along the streets of Valletta on Wednesday at 8.30 p.m. as part of the feast.

The traditional march by the King’s Own Band will be held next Saturday at 9 a.m. The band will salute President George Abela at the Palace at 10 a.m.

In the evening, the band will perform a concert in Merchants Street, Valletta, at 8.15 p.m.

The society is currently holding an exhibition at the club’s premises in Republic Street, Valletta, to mark the 100th anniversary when the band earned the title of ‘Excellence’ in Algiers in 1912.
