A 36-year-old drug trafficker was yesterday jailed for five years and six months and fined €12,000 after he admitted to trafficking cocaine within 100 metres of a primary school.

Patrick Borg, from Birkirkara, reached a plea bargain with the Attorney General before admitting to the trafficking charge and also to holding his former girlfriend, Antoinette Rapinett, against her will at his house and threatening her with a pistol in 2008.

Mr Justice Lawrence Quintano heard how Mr Borg had sold the drug to four people from his residence which was within 100 metres of the Birkirkara primary school.

Lawyers Franco Debono and José Hererra appeared for Mr Borg.
