A man who was caught with a large consignment of ecstasy pills has been jailed for eight years and fined €23,000 after admitting to complicity in the trafficking of drugs.

Jeffrey Zammit and another man, Robert Cilia, decided to start selling ecstasy pills and made arrangements to sell the drugs to a third party.

The police caught Mr Cilia, his wife Pauline and the accused with 1,000 ecstasy pills in a Fiat Uno on May 25, 2008. They were parked in Naxxar after buying the pills from a Dutchman.

In a subsequent search of the couple’s home the police found a further 38 ecstasy pills and 0.07 grams of cocaine.

Mr Justice Michael Mallia jailed Mr Zammit after taking into consideration that a plea bargain had been reached with the Attorney General.

Last year the couple were jailed for six years and fined €23,000.

Lawyers Veronique Dalli and Dean Hili appeared for Mr Zammit.
