A young Somali man who was caught with cannabis while on a suspended jail sentence was yesterday locked up for a year and three months.

Mohamed Kheyre Heybe, 24, from Ġzira, pleaded guilty to cannabis possession, committing a crime during the operative period of a suspended jail term and relapsing.

Magistrate Charmaine Galea told him that the punishment this time round would have to be an effective jail term after considering that he had already been found guilty of theft.

She granted him bail against a personal guarantee of €2,000 until his appeal is heard.
