A drug addict who stole about €2,300 of jewellery from her mother to fund her addiction was jailed for two years and six months after a previous suspended jail term was brought into force.

Carmela Camilleri, 40, of St Paul’s Bay had stolen the items, mostly consisting of gold items, between July 7 and 11 last year from her mother’s house where she lived.

Magistrate Saviour Demicoli jailed her for 18 months for the theft and brought into a force a one-year suspended jail term, which she was given for other theft-related charges.

Police Inspectors Therese Sciberras and Robert Vella prosecuted.
