Gozo now has a driving-test area of its own to save Gozitan residents having to go to Malta for their driving tests.

In answer to a comment by Labour MP Evarist Bartolo on how Maltese drivers failed their tests in Malta but “suddenly” achieved the skill in Gozo, Transport Minister Austin Gatt said tests in Gozo were less stressful because there was less traffic to contend with.

Replying to the original question by Anthony Agius Decelis (PL), Dr Gatt told Parliament on Tuesday that there were no restrictions on where driving instruction could be given on either island, but the Gozo facility had never been intended for Maltese drivers because they were well served in Malta.

There was nothing to stop Maltese going to Gozo for their driving tests, but bookings for tests for Gozitans were given priority because, unlike in Malta, tests were not held every day.
