Two men were injured early yesterday morning in the third hit-and-run case in recent days, the police said.

One of them, a 62-year-old man from Qrendi, was changing a flat tyre and the other, a 25-year-old man from Mqabba, stopped to offer assistance when a Mazda suddenly drove by and hit them both. The incident happened shortly before 1 a.m. in Sejba Street in Mqabba and the two men suffer­ed fractures.

A 61-year-old woman suffered shock but was otherwise unhurt.

A 21-year-old man from Qrendi turned up at the Żurrieq police station with his father at about 3 a.m. and admitted he was the driver of the Mazda, the police said.

An elderly British woman died in a hit-and run in Qawra and a foreign boy was injured in Sliema in similar circumstances.

Arraignments have been made in both cases.
