A driver who knocked over a drunkard was fined €700 for not keeping a proper lookout.

Ian Agius, 31, from St Paul’s Bay, was driving along Mosta Road in St Paul’s Bay on January 10, 2010, when Ivica Marinkovic crossed the road.

In his testimony, Mr Agius admitted he was concentrating on the traffic lights when he suddenly realised he had hit something.

The victim suffered a 15 per cent permanent disability and had a broken arm and leg.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke noted that while the victim was partly to blame for the incident Mr Agius could not be excused given the manner in which he had been driving.

She found him guilty of involuntary grievous bodily harm and of careless driving.
