A man injured in a traffic accident in 2003 has been awarded over €66,000 in damages by Mr Justice Mark Chetcuti sitting in the First Hall of the Civil Court.

Alfred Ciantar had sued Godfrey and Maria Teresa Camilleri and their insurance for damages following the accident that occurred when Mr Ciantar was driving along Great Siege Road in the direction of Floriana and collided with a car driven Mr Camilleri. Mr Camilleri’s car was emerging from Sir Hannibal Scicluna Street onto Great Siege Road.

Mr Ciantar argued that he had right of way because Mr Camilleri was emerging onto a main road from a side street where a stop sign was also installed.

The court held that Mr Camilleri was totally responsible for the accident as a result of which Mr Ciantar suffered a 10 per cent permanent disability.

The court ordered Mr and Mrs Camilleri to pay Mr Ciantar €66,103 in damages.
