A young driver was yesterday fined €200 and banned from driving for two weeks after she admitted running over a Malian cyclist.

The refugee, Moussa Konare, 28, suffered fractures in his legs after the car driven by 22-year-old Kristina Caruana, from Marsaxlokk, hit him on Triq Għar Dalam at around 6.30am on April 26 last year.

In court yesterday, Ms Caruana admitted to driving carelessly, involuntarily causing serious injuries to Mr Konare and failing to stop.

Police Inspector Kevin Pulis, together with lawyers Deborah Delceppo and Antonio Depasquale, discussed the case at the Bench with Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit before judgment was handed down and the case was over within minutes.
