Melita 3
St George’s 3

Melita and St George’s lost priceless points as both needed a win to keep challenging for promotion. In the end, both teams had to be content with a 3-3 stalemate.

Melita had a superb start and after just seven minutes they opened the score when Cueto Rodriguez hit home from a corner.

The Amateurs continued to show the better play, pinning the Saints in their own half.

But St George’s drew level on 19 minutes with an Alex Ellul goal from close range after a rare foray inside their opponents territory.

However, the Saints’ joy was short-lived as Melita regained the lead five minutes later through Rodriguez. This time he drove the ball past Marmara after good service from Da Silva.

Melita seemed heading to a fine victory when on 55 minutes the score became 3-1 in their favour following a Bernardo Mariano own goal whose attempt to clear a Luke Sammut effort misfired badly.

But the Saints came roaring back into the match when from a free-kick Mariano headed into the path of Emerson Amaira who planted the ball home past Melita keeper Schranz.

Four minutes later the Saints drew level when Mariano won a ball inside the Melita box and as he tried to conclude was brought down by Schranz.

From the spot, Mariano made up for the own goal incident and drew the teams level.
