Most tourism establishments in Gozo are not happy with the performance of the year’s first quarter.
According to a Gozo Tourism Association survey, 56 per cent said their business performance was bad and 37 per cent declared it was fair. Only five per cent said it was good, while the remaining two per cent described it as very good. The association’s members include hotels, self-catering establishments, restaurants, diving outfits, transport services, tourist attractions and tour agencies.
Revenue generated was bad for 62 per cent of survey respondents, while 30 per cent said it was fair.
The main factors limiting Gozitan business performance include insufficient demand by clients and operating costs, the survey found. Other factors included a shortage of employees and administrative bureaucracy.
Asked just how their business situation had developed over the first quarter, only 10 per cent said it has improved.
