For the past three years the residents of lower Old College Street, Sliema have been suffering the inconvenience of large volumes of water flowing down the road for days on end, a number of times each month. The water comes from drainpipes which are situated near the entrance to the Belmonte Heights garages, close to the mini market.

Several residents have repeatedly reported this to the Sliema local council and to the Water Services Corporation but the situation persists. The water apparently originates from overflowing roof cisterns serving the Belmonte Heights apartments.

Besides the inconvenience and potential slipping hazards that this constant flow of water causes, it is indeed a shameful waste of one of our most precious resources – potable water.

I appeal to all the relevant authorities and those responsible to take whatever steps are necessary to ensure that this situation is remedied once and for all.
