I would like to know why we are given a parking ticket when parked on a corner with no double yellow lines when the council or whoever is in charge of the parking bays places the bays right up at the corner.

In places like Sliema, Floriana and Birkirkara, the parking bays are so close to the corner that if I were walking on a pavement I would have to go around the legally parked car (parked in a parking bay) to carry on walking along the same street.

Surely this can’t be right? I took a few photos as evidence for when my court appointment comes up because I will definitely be contesting my ticket.

A few days ago, I was booked for parking on a corner of a dead end road that sees no traffic at all. Six inches from the corner is a parking bay. I was not in the parking bay but next to it facing the cul-de-sac with just four houses to one side and a field on the other. The field is on the corner. I have been parking in this spot on and off for the last eight years.

Does the five-metre rule apply to all of us, meaning Joe Bloggs, Transport Malta and the local councils?

Will I be breaking the law by parking my car in a parking bay that is right on the corner?

It seems to me that on this two square inches of an island, the left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing.
