On Sunday, four members of Teatru Manoel Youth Theatre (TMYT) – Becky Camilleri, Tina Rizzo, Anton Saliba and Gianni Selvaggi –will be performing a double bill of extended excerpts from two plays: Lungs by Duncan Macmillan and Disco Pigs by Enda Walsh.
Camilleri and Selvaggi will be performing pieces from Lungs, described by The Guardian as “a distinctive, off-kilter love story which is brutally honest, funny, edgy and current”.
It is a smart and funny drama that follows a couple through the surprising lifecycle of their relationship, as they grapple with questions of family and change, hope, betrayal, happenstance, and the terrible pain that you can only cause the people you love.
On the other hand, Saliba and Rizzo will be staging excerpts from Disco Pigs, described by The London Independent: “The exquisite, knuckle-gnawing agony of teenagehood is inhabited in Enda Walsh’s brilliant early play which is a raw exploration of two young minds and bodies, plagued by their own inexperience, who relish destruction.”
TMYT forms part of Toi Toi (the Manoel Theatre’s educational programme) and falls under the tutelage of theatre practitioner Denise Mulholland.
The TMYT troupe combine their own devised work while exploring various theatrical techniques.
• This double bill is being staged on Sunday at 3pm and 8pm at the Manoel’s Studio Theatre, 81, Old Mint Street.
