Borussia Dortmund would only sell teenage star Mario Goetze to a foreign team and have ruled out selling him to any other German league club, CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke insisted yesterday.

The transfer window closes on August 31, but German champions Borussia Dortmund insist their talented player is not going anywhere – especially not in Germany.

“In all seriousness, Mario does not have the idea to change to another team within Germany. You can completely forget about it,” Watzke told German magazine Sport-Bild.

Europe’s top clubs have taken interest in the German teenager after a string of top-class performances.

Manchester United have been reported to be particularly interested after talks with Inter’s Wesley Sneijder fell through.

Goetze, who scored and orchestrated Germany’s 3-2 friendly win over Brazil in Stuttgart last Wednesday, has already said he will never join Bayern Munich.

The 19-year-old has a contract at Dortmund until June 2014 after signing a contract extension.

Even if Bayern, who bought up Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and defender Jerome Boateng from Manchester City during the summer, did offer a multi-million euro bid, Watzke says Dortmund would be stupid to let him go to their rivals.

“Bayern can save themselves an offer, we would be totally stupid to let him go there,” said Watzke.

“Mario has won the German title with us, he has been with us for eight years and his family lives in the city.

“So there are only three or four clubs in the world he could possibly move to. And they are not located in Germany.”
