German champions Borussia Dortmund will kick-off the new football season at home to Werder Bremen on Friday, August 24 with the Bundesliga set to celebrate its 50th anniversary, it was announced yesterday.

The German Football Federation (DFB) revealed Champions League finalists Bayern Munich will start their campaign the same weekend at newly-promoted Bavarian neighbours Greuther Fuerth, who will be making their Bundesliga debut.

The other newly-promoted sides, Eintracht Frankfurt and Fortuna Dusseldorf, start their campaigns at home to Bayer Leverkusen and away to Augsburg respectively.

Bayern Munich take on Borussia Dortmund for the first time at the Allianz Arena in the 15th round of fixtures between November 30 and December 2.

The reverse fixture will be the third last game of the season between May 3 and 5.

Borussia Dortmund finish the season at home to Hoffenheim and Bayern away to Borussia Moenchengladbach.

The season will run until May 18, 2013.
