Doncaster Rovers and Gillingham have won silverware that they have not claimed before.

Last season, Doncaster were the League One champions and Gillingham were the top team in League Two.

Doncaster, managed by Brian Flynn, have jumped back to the Championship after one season, being demoted in 2011-12 having finished at the bottom.

Before their relegation, the Rovers spent four successive years in the Championship.

The other club to gain an automatic up from League One last month was Bournemouth.

In the last two seasons, Martin Allen’s Gillingham finished eighth before the breakthrough.

The other two promoted sides were Rotherham and Port Vale.

The Johnstone Paint Trophy final, the knockout for League One and League Two clubs and some from the Conference, was won by Crewe Alexandra.

Crewe beat Southend United 2-0 in the final at Wembley.

This was Crewe’s second glory day at the temple of English football. In fact, at the end of last season, the Railwaymen had beaten Cheltenham in the play-off final.

Play-off winners: League One − Yeovil-Brentford 2-1. League Two − Bradford-Northampton 3-0.

Barnet and Aldershot were demoted to non-League football last month.

They will be replaced by Conference champions Mansfield and play-off winners Wrexham.
