The police received 3,928 reports of domestic violence and arraigned 3,676 people between 2009 and the end of October this year.

Answering a question in Parliament by government MP Deo Debattista, Home Affairs Minister Emanuel Mallia said the sentences handed down by the courts included fines, probation orders, conditional discharges, suspended sentences and personal guarantees.

No statistics were available on repeat offenders and injuries sustained by victims.
