Kevin Sammut Henwood was awarded the degree of Doctor of Forensic Psychology by the Centre of Forensic and Family Psychology, Division of Psychiatry and Applied Psychology, at the School of Medicine of University of Nottingham. This degree was sponsored by a scholarship grant from the Malta Government Scholarship Scheme.

His research involved the study of the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioural interventions in reducing offending behaviour and recidivism among community-based and incarcerated offenders.

It also involved the piloting of a cognitive-behavioural programme on a sample of male community-based offenders. By using a random control trial with a waitlist control he was able to demonstrate a significant reduction of symptoms associated with offending behaviour. His doctoral thesis also involved adapting and piloting the programme on a female offender.

Dr Sammut Henwood is a psychology graduate from the University of Malta. He later read for a Master’s in forensic psychology at the University of Surrey where he graduated with distinction.

He is currently employed as a psychologist at the Department of Probation and Parole after working at Corradino Correctional Facility since 2006. He served on the executive council of the Malta Union of Professional Psychologists and was a member of the Malta Psychology Professions Board.
