I was just wondering why the referendum ballot paper had to be marked by an erasable pencil and not by a permanent marker? Likewise I was wondering why the counting was not done as soon as the ballot boxes were transported to the Mediterranean Conference Centre rather than the next day?
And I must say that the pro-divorce movement with heavyweight politicians from both sides of the House had a definite advantage over the polite, able but non-politicians of the no movement who were not well-versed in political manoeuvring and posturing.
Would the result have been the same had the questions asked, requiring a yes vote, been: Would you vote yes for keeping marriage a lifelong commitment or vote no to lifelong marriage so as to enable one or other of the married couples to terminate unilaterally after four years?
