The recent divorce referendum shows that secularism is gaining the upper hand in Malta. The “Me” generation, where it’s all about the individual and society be damned, has triumphed. Malta can now claim to be counted among the enlightened nations of the world and a member of the decadent western culture club. Malta is now almost equal to all other nations with the exception of a few that persist in living in the “dark ages”.

Yes, we have arrived and we will not stop here. Although we have won this round, there’s still a lot of work to be done in order that we become full members and then proudly proclaim that we are equal to all other western nations.

So on to the next battle. We need champions to lead us deeper into secularism and enlightenment. We need champions to head the cause for abortion on demand, euthanasia, capital punishment and same-sex marriage. And when we have accomplished those goals, let’s also ban religion from all public schools and remove all symbols of religion from public places.

Yes, Malta has arrived indeed.
