While, on one hand, I am pleased that Malta (and Gozo) received high marks with foreigners regarding diving facilities and attractions, on the other hand I am disappointed by the lack of enforcement of laws protecting and preserving the main diving sites.

Just last week, I dived at one of the main attractions in Gozo, the Double Arch in Xwejni Bay.

A few metres away from the attraction, there was a fish cage on the seabed. Apart from this there was also an abandoned fish line with hooks stuck to the various rock formations.

When are we going to see an end to this abuse, and – apart from caring more for the environment – also realise that these attractions are naturally money spinners for the economy?
