Germany’s world discus champion Robert Harting is seeking a second opinion from the German team’s ski doctor to help cure a knee injury and avoid disruption to his plans for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The 26-year-old defended his world title in Daegu when he won the discus gold with a throw of 68.97m having first been crowned champion two years before in Berlin.

He has been suffering with an inflamed tendon in his left knee for months so is seeking extra advice and images from MRI scans will now go to Bernd Wolfarth, the head doctor of the German Ski Federation, for a second opinion.

Harting will then decide whether to undergo surgery, most likely in early November, which would give him plenty of time to prepare for London.
