Although I do not live in Sliema, I drive there every day and I am utterly appalled at the condition of the roads in this area.

Many localities in Malta have made an effort to repair their roads, even though those repairs have often been sub-standard. At least they made an effort.

The Sliema council, on the other hand, has made no effort whatsoever. I specifically refer to the road between Sliema and Gżira which has reached a pitiful state of disrepair. My car was built to drive on normal roads. In this area, it is impossible to drive without incurring some damage to my suspension. The councillors should try it. Go on, get out of the office, stop arguing about petty politics and drive along this road.

At one time, it was possible to drive on the outside lane with only a few unpleasant bounces to contend with. Well, that little avenue of relief has finished because the outside lane now has a crater in it which sends a seismic shudder through my car. The inside lane is almost impassable. Frankly, I am surprised that Arriva have not taken someone to court over the damage to their buses; and yes, I have been on a bus along this road.

I don’t really expect a reply to this because that is not the way things are done in Malta. Things are ignored. People are just pond life.

No more, Mr or Mrs Mayor (I have lost track of who is who through all the squabbling and inefficiency). Maybe it’s time for the population to stop being Mr and Mrs Doormat.

I invite them to actually rise up from their gilded seats, step up to the plate, poke their little heads above the parapet and do something.

Do I have their attention? Probably not.

Oh look, did I just see a pig fly over?
