Yet again Radio Malta is proving itself a disappointment, not only to itself but also to the Maltese community. Why, you may ask.
I was in the habit of listening every Wednesday to a short programme called Nisġa. It has a simple concept, that of narrating and giving as much information as possible on anything which had to do with the Maltese culture. Those 30 minutes were a real thirst quencher to us all who are proud of being Maltese and who want to learn more about what the Maltese culture has to offer.
Thirty minutes are a short time for such an interesting programme giving information on all aspects of Maltese culture, whether an explanation of the derivatives and meanings of Maltese words, information about chapels, flora or historical monuments. You name it and they explained it. Yet now, even those 30 minutes seem to have been too much since Radio Malta has decided to stop this programme altogether. And the replacement, may I ask?
Will it be something equally informative, equally interesting or equally cultural or will we go back to what we know best - that is a juke box radio? I look forward to receiving an answer but I know that Radio Malta will disappoint me and many other listeners of Nisġa by not even bothering to explain itself.
