Given the fact that the population of the Naxxar area – which includes San Pawl tat-Tarġa, Birguma and Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq – is continuously growing, it is high time that the Naxxar local council makes provision for several more ‘disabled’ parking areas in the town core.

At the moment there are just two – one near the offices of the local council, and one other at the side of the parish church. To make matters worse, these spaces are usually taken up by the same two vehicles throughout the day, leaving no parking place for disabled persons who have errands in the town centre.

For some time there had been a third space opposite Vascas, but this has recently been removed.

I have been informed by the council that as a ‘disabled’ badge holder I am entitled to use any parking space without being subject to the parking time limit, but this possibility does not actually exist because unless one is really lucky, all parking spaces are inevitably taken up.

The Naxxar local council needs to address this problem as a matter of urgency, and to provide at least three more ‘disabled’ parking spaces in the core of the town. I have personally made the council aware of this very real problem but there appears to be no interest at all from their side to take action.
