This summer has seen an increase in the number of number of seacraft coming into Balluta Bay for the weekend. It was never like this before, and I believe it is the result of boaters feeling the pinch of higher fuel prices. The bay is the first available stop when one leaves the marinas.

I wonder how many of these craft have ‘holding tanks’ and use them effectively, because if they don’t, this means that all their waste is dumped into the sea, to be ‘enjoyed’ by the many bathers frequenting the area.

I have also seen dogs on board, and one gentleman in particular who takes his dog on the jetty between the Neptunes and San Ġiljan clubs for its needs, only to dispose of the excrement by pouring buckets of water on it, and it ends up in the sea.

There seems to be total disregard as to where these craft are moored as the picture shows. What about safe swimmer zones?

Add to this the many youngsters zooming around in the boats’ tenders.

Where are Transport Malta and the Administrative Law Enforcement patrols?
