A baroque style dinner, Una Cena Barocca, is being organised by the International Institute for Baroque Studies, in conjunction with the Programme for Mediterranean Culinary Culture at the Institute for Tourism, Travel and Culture at the University of Malta.

The cuisine of the baroque age was varied and imaginative and many authentic menus and recipes of the period still survive. Table settings and the presentation of food all gained importance during this time. Paintings of the period enable us to visualise the sumptuous displays of food.

A selection of baroque music will be performed for the occasion by Camerata Galatea, including Re-becca Hall (flute), John McDonough (oboe) and Akos Kertez (cello). The programme will include Telemann, Handel and female composers Isabella Leonarda and Elizabeth Claude Jacquet de la Guerre.

The event will take place on Friday at the Ballroom of the Grand Hotel Excelsior in Floriana at 7.30pm.

It is being held in collaboration with the Malta Chef Society, the Institute for Tourism Studies and the management of the hotel.
