Birżebbuġa and Gżira shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw, a result that condemned Dingli Swallows to Division Two football next season.
A draw was a just result. Both sides had their chances with Gżira creating the first when Sonny Ogbemudia was denied by Paul Celeste.
On 15 minutes, Patrick Curmi’s Birżebbuġa had a good opportunity to open the score but a Joe Sammut grounder was stopped by Gerada.
The southerners ventured forward but with scant reward as a fierce Kevin Borg drive flew wide.
The Maroons looked better in the second half and went close when a Steve Meilaq effort rattled the bar with Celeste beaten.
Curmi’s side managed to forge ahead on 65 minutes when substitute Thiago Dos Santos Mazzitelli latched on to a Martin Deanov pass before beating the helpless Gerada.
Birżebbuġa seemed heading for a victory but two minutes from time substitute Vincenzo Brincat drew the teams level, hitting home from an acute angle.
