The Malta Information Technology Agency has been tasked with drawing up a national strategy for the digital economy.

Parliamentary Secretary for Competitiveness Edward Zammit Lewis said the strategy would be implemented over the coming years and will include the government’s ambitious plan for the sector.

He was speaking during an official visit to MITA’s head office in Blata l-Bajda where he met the board of directors and staff.

Dr Zammit Lewis said the national strategy would complement other strategies and play a central part in the implementation of the electoral programme.

He praised the agency for being a model on how the public sector had to operate.

However, he said Malta’s 35th ranking place in the UN’s e-government development index and return on investment of the previous administration were unsatisfactory.
